Q: Do I need an appointment?

A: For quick drop offs, no. If you require the fitting room, and have multiple items to try on that take some time to pin then an appointment may be a good idea.


Q: What should I bring to my fitting?

A: You should bring anything that you will be wearing with the completed outfit. For example: bra, shoes, and shapewear for dresses; shoes for pant hems. If you’re wanting the sleeves shortened on your coat and you normally wear a sweater underneath of it, please wear that when you come in to have it pinned or else it may end up being too short.


Q: Do you do alterations on wedding dresses?

A: Yes and no. We still accept bridesmaid dresses for alterations, but we no longer accept wedding dresses. We recommend that you contact Nicole at Sew Retro for your bridal alterations.


Q: Do you do alterations on suit jackets?

A: Yes, we can shorten sleeves, take it in in some areas and mend them. We do not take in the shoulders at all, or shorten the length of them.


Q: Do you hem curtains?

A: We sure do!


Q: When and how do I pay?

A: You are required to pay whenever you drop your items off, unless otherwise specified. We accept cash, debit, and credit cards. 


Q: Do we work with leather?

A: Yes, we do.

Q: Can we repair broken snaps on jackets?

A: Broken snaps cannot be repaired, but depending on the type of snap and it’s location we can replace it. It won’t be an exact match. If it is a sewn in snap, then we can resew it. This question is specifically regarding non-sewn snaps.


Q: Can we shorten jacket sleeves?

A: Yes.


Q: Can we repair broken zippers?

A: If your zipper is separating and all of the teeth are okay, we can replace the slider. If any of the teeth are damaged (including the bit at the very bottom) then the whole zipper will need to be replaced. If you are unsure, bring it by and we will let you know, as well as the price of both options.


Q: Can we sew on embroidered patches?

A: Yes! Whether you have one patch that needs to be sewn onto something, or 150. We can do it!


Q: Do we do embroidery?

A: We do not currently offer embroidery services.


Q: My pants have torn, can you patch them?

A: Absolutely! Check out our social media accounts to see some examples.


Q: How does this tailoring thing work?

A: We have a fitting room for you to try your items on. You can either try on your item and we will pin or chalk it, or you can show us what you want done. Then we will decide on a pick up date together and you will prepay for your order. After that, we make the magic happen! When your item is completed we will text you (or call you if you don't have a cellphone), and you can come in anytime after that to pick it up.


Q: Do I have to pre-wash my item before dropping it off?

A: Yes! If your item is visibly dirty or has a bad smell, we have the right to refuse to work on it until it has been laundered. Working with dirty garments could damage our sewing machines, our health or other customers' precious items. We also highly recommend that brand new items be washed and dried before being altered to allow for any possible shrinkage. We will not be responsible for any post alteration shrinkage resulting in ill-fitting garments.


Q: What is our response time?

A: We try to reply as quickly as possible during the opening hours of the shop (Wednesday to Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-2:00pm). Any calls or messages we receive outside of our shop hours may not be returned until the following business day.


Q: What is our turnaround time?

A: Since it is always changing throughout the year, the best way to check this is on the front page of our website, and it is updated every Saturday. If you are unsure of the possibility of having your items done in time for a specific date, give us a call! We always make exceptions for funerals/end of life events as we know they're unpredictable, and stressful enough as it is. Just come see us as soon as you can and we will fit you in.


Q: Do you offer same day service?

A: Depending on our current workload and the alteration that is being requested, we can accommodate same day service requests. This is subject to an additional fee.
